We spent almost 1 month here in the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains

A couple of quick facts to help you understand Georgia:
- It is one of the oldest wine producing regions in the world and even claims to be the birthplace of wine, the first wine being made here 10,000 years ago! Although it was done by accident when some forgotten grapes left in a container fermented.
- Georgians are very hospitable and will feed you enormous amounts of food and ChaCha (Georgian Vodka) if you are their guests
- The Georgian language has its own alphabet and no-one speaks this language in the world except Georgians.
- There are approximately 4 million people in Georgia – similar to NZ
- The country is located in between Russia, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, The Black Sea and The Caspian Sea.
- It is one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world ranging from alpine to subtropical, coastal, forest and semi-desert. The dense forests of Georgia are home to leopards, lynxes and bears.
- When we visited we went from one day at -2 degrees in the mountains of Svaneti and within a 3 hour drive we were back at sea level in Kutaisi where the temperature was 30 degrees!
There was a lot of walking, hiking and exploring in this country! So much to see and so little time to see it all!
